Ask AI to do the Navisworks® clicking for you
MCP for Navisworks® connects your AI app to the model you have open. Ask it to find items, read their properties, hide or colour them, build search sets, or append and save models, and it does the work in your live session.
agent = any MCP app; navisworks = 2027; server = off until you say;

What AI can do in your model
Find and read
Search the model by any property, walk the selection tree, read item properties and bounding boxes, and list the values a property takes.
Hide and colour
Hide or show items by rule, override colours, or colour the whole model by a property in one go. Every change can be undone.
Search and selection sets
Create search sets and selection sets from conditions you describe, and change what is selected.
Models and files
Append and remove models, open and save documents, and export NWD files.
[02] Agent workflows
Ask for it in plain English
Copy a prompt into your AI app with the tools connected. Edit the names to suit your model.
Hide every item named "Lines" or "Center line" in all models. Do a dry run first and tell me how many it finds.
Colour the model by area number from the source file name, so every area has its own colour. Show me the rules before you apply them.
Create a search set for each value of the Level property, named after the level, in a folder called Levels.
List the values used for Element > Material across the structural model, and select everything that has none.
Find every item whose Mark contains 118X and select them so I can look at them.
Append the latest services model, hide the reference lines, and save it as a new NWD next to the original. Do not overwrite anything.
[03] Why
Why MCP for Navisworks®?
Off until you switch it on
The connection is off by default. Click the MCP button in Navisworks® to turn it on, and off again whenever you like.
Careful by design
Bulk edits can be run as a dry run first. Big changes, removing models and deleting sets all need a confirm, and saving never overwrites a file unless asked.
Read-only when you want
One switch makes it refuse every edit, so the AI can look but not touch. Hides and colours can always be undone.

[07] Questions
Good to know
What do I need?
Windows and Autodesk® Navisworks® Manage 2027, plus an AI app that supports MCP.
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an AI app use tools on your computer. This add-in gives it a defined set of Navisworks® actions, and nothing else.
Can the AI delete things from my model?
It cannot delete individual items, because the Navisworks® API does not allow it, so it hides them instead. It can remove a whole appended model, but only with a confirm.
Does my model get uploaded anywhere?
No. The add-in talks to your open Navisworks® session on your own computer. Only what you type, and what the tools hand back, goes to your AI app.
